The water supply in the village of Nyack did not meet treatment requirements in December and January. In a post on the village’s website, the Nyack Water Department said tests showed no bacteria, but on multiple days, the water didn’t get a full disinfectant treatment. There is no boil-water precaution necessary and residents don’t need to do anything else. They did note, however, that people who have weak immune systems, babies, and the elderly should consult their doctors. Nyack Water is working with the county health department to resolve the issue.
General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available on the EPA Ground Water and Drinking Water Website.
