A lower Manhattan resident is suing the MTA over its congestion pricing
plan, claiming they haven’t studied the effects it’ll have on the
environment and traffic enough. That’s according to Gothamist.com.
Songwriter Elizabeth Chan is concerned about pollution and slower
ambulance response times in her Battery Park City neighborhood. Hers is
the second lawsuit filed against the plan. While Rockland hasn’t gone the
legal route, local officials have all agreed the plan is unfair to
west-of-Hudson travelers. Haverstraw supervisor Howard Phillips calls
congestion pricing “a farce”…
The MTA’s controversial congestion pricing plan could start next May, but the agency still reportedly wants to settle a lawsuit by New Jersey
officials looking to stop the plan from moving forward. The plan is
expected to bring in $1 billion for the MTA’s capital plan, and reduce
congestion and pollution in Manhattan. The review board thinks they’ll see a 17% reduction in the number of cars, that’s 153,000 fewer each day. Chan is no stranger to the legal system. Last year she won a lawsuit against pop star Mariah Carey over her attempt to trademark the phrase “Queen of Christmas.”
