Dozens have weighed-in since Friday’s document release on the Rockland County District Attorney’s Facebook page from the Spring Valley Adult home fire. All the comments expressed disappointment in the decision to offer the plea three weeks ago to the Rabbis charged with starting the fire or called for the D-A to resign. 72 year-old Nathaniel Sommer and 29 year-old Aaron Sommer were charged with causing the fatal Evergreen fire that killed volunteer firefighter, 35 year-old Jared Lloyd, and 70 year-old resident Oliver Hueston. Included in the paperwork released online include Investigation Reports from the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, the Department of Public Service, and court transcripts from the day the plea was accepted. Callers to “The Morning Show,” including Joe who said he is a member of Jared Lloyd’s firehouse, have also been outraged at the sentence, which they feel is little more than a slap on the wrist…
Others, like JP, were angered that included in the posting were graphic photos from the scene of the fire, which apparently were removed several hours after they were released…
The Sommers admitted to Judge Kevin Russo to using a blowtorch and coals to prepare the kitchen of the Evergreen Court Adult Home for Passover, causing the fatal blaze in March 2021. In the Facebook post, the D-A’s office said any public comments would be inappropriate as the case is not yet over. Nathaniel will get five years’ probation, Aaron will get three when they’re sentenced September 20th. We have a link to the D-A’s Facebook post in this news article on our website.
