Orange and Rockland Utilities has 50 $1,000 STEM Classroom Grants for educators at schools and youth groups for the next school year. Now, they’re not just giving this money away to students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. They have to submit creative classroom projects designed to improve, advance and enrich student learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, STEM for short. O&R spokesman Mike Donovan says their STEM Education Advisory Council will decide who gets the grants…
Each applicant can get up to $1,000 to be used toward purchasing materials and resources for their projects. Past winning proposal topics have ranged from drone crop monitoring and robotic development, to hydroponics and 3-D printed solar vehicle construction. Over the past seven years, O&R has awarded 277 STEM Classroom Grants totaling nearly $247,000. The STEM Classroom Grants Program application can be found here. Applications must be received by March 31st. The grants will be awarded in May.
