The Town of Orangetown reportedly secured a temporary restraining order from a Rockland Supreme Court judge last night to prevent the Armoni Inn & Suites from taking in the migrants that Mayor Eric Adams wants to send to Rockland. Both Rockland and Orange counties have enacted States of Emergency to try and prevent the city from shipping the migrants to the suburbs. Callers to “The Morning Show” yesterday weighed in on the national news story unfolding right here in our own backyard. Westchester County Executive George Latimer said in a press conference Monday that unlike Rockland and Orange counties, he would not be issuing a State of Emergency…
Latimer said he hoped to have a plan in place by the end of the week, in case Westchester is asked to assist. Governor Kathy Hochul, meanwhile, yesterday issued an Executive Order to help provide aid to asylum seekers as the federal Title 42 immigration policy is set to expire tomorrow. The Executive Order gives the state greater flexibility to get funding to municipalities to support asylum seekers. It also gives the state the ability to increase the number of National Guard service members to help with logistical and operational support. Hochul said the state continues to work with the city on finding sites in the city to shelter asylum seekers as they arrive and await legal work status.
