A person stopped on the New York State Thruway in Ramapo, in a vehicle that was reportedly connected to an earlier homicide, was killed yesterday afternoon in an exchange of gunfire with State Police. It all went down around 2:55 yesterday, when New York State Troopers stopped a vehicle on Route 87 near exit 15A in Hillburn. News 12 says it began earlier in Albany, with a fatal shooting there leading to the chase down the Thruway. Police say during the traffic stop in Hillburn, the suspect, who was the only one in the vehicle, opened fire on two Troopers. They fired back, fatally wounding the suspect, who was not identified. One Trooper sustained minor injuries and the other was unharmed. The investigation continues, so anyone with information is asked to call State Police in Middletown at 845-344-5300.
