The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, has honored a Ramapo Police officer after he helped a raccoon who got its head stuck in a can. Officer Chris Byrnes went to a homeowner who had reported seeing the raccoon with its head stuck. Officer Byrnes was able to remove the can and the raccoon scampered off into the woods. It was caught on video, leading PETA rep Moira Colley Monday to give Officer Byrnes and the Ramapo P.D. their “Compassionate Police Department Award” and what was described as a “delicious vegan meal.”
