Residents of the Thiells-Roseville Fire District in North Rockland will be voting tonight on a $24 million bond issue to pay for a new fire station. The polls will be open from 6pm-9pm tonight. News 12 says the $24.3 million bond referendum would pay for 4.8 acres of land about 500 yards from the current station on Route 202 and the construction of a new two-story, 23,000-square foot fire station. Estimated costs to the average homeowner would be about $191. The Thiells Fire Department has been operating from an outdated facility on Route 202 for decades. The building’s been around since 1960, and does not meet some modern state codes.
