Hudson Valley lawmakers reacted to the announcement earlier today that President Joe Biden would be stepping aside in the race for president. In a statement, Rockland Congressman of the 17th District, Mike Lawler, said “Though President Biden and I have not seen eye-to-eye on a number of issues, I recognize his deep commitment to our country, and thank him for his years of service to the nation. I appreciate his resolve and his sacrifices.” Former Congressman Mondaire Jones, who is running for the seat he originally won the same year Biden became president, said he deserves “this much-needed rest, and know that your legacy is secure.” Orange County State Senator Democrat James Skoufis said it was the right move to get out of the race. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York praised Biden for “once again putting his country, his party, and our future first.” New York Senator, Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand thanked Biden for his decades of public service, and called it “an honor to serve alongside” him.
