Rockland’s Congressman is putting forward a bill in the House of Representatives that would rename the Haverstraw Post Office in honor of Rockland’s former County Clerk who died in May 2020. At a press conference in front of the post office yesterday, Mike Lawler of the 17th district said Paul Piperato worked across the political aisle…
Paul died of a heart attack in the early months of COVID, and Rockland Sheriff Lou Falco, a childhood friend of Paul’s, was touched by the unusual memorial service held for him…
County Clerk Donna Silberman worked with Paul for many years…
And that was Village of Haverstraw Mayor Michael Kohut. Rockland County Executive Ed Day said he was blessed to know Paul…
And that was Haverstraw supervisor Howard Phillips. Paul’s niece, Alexa, and daughter, Danielle, said he would be proud of the honor…
Once the bill is passed, an official renaming ceremony will be scheduled. Piperato became Rockland County Clerk in 2005 and held the position until his death. He began his career in 1988 as a Budget Examiner in the Rockland County Finance Department. He also served two four-year terms as a Haverstraw Town Councilman.
