Ramapo Police say the suspect in a fatal shooting this morning in Hillcrest has been found in Connecticut and has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police say they responded to Inwood Drive just before 9am yesterday for a reported shooting. They say a 56 year-old woman was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital by Spring Hill Volunteer Ambulance Corps where she was pronounced dead. The search for the suspect led the Ramapo Police Investigations Division to Stamford Connecticut, where the suspect, 53-year-old Lawrence Byrd, had fled. The Stamford Police Department located Byrd late this afternoon, followed him and approached him under an MTA train overpass. According to Stamford Police, Byrd put a gun to his head, fired a single shot and collapsed. Despite attempts at CPR Byrd died shortly thereafter. The investigation is ongoing, and no further information was available. Police say it was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the general public.
