Rockland Community College has a new “Officer in Charge” now that the school and its president have agreed to part ways. RCC Board of Trustees Chairman Martin Wortendyke said they and Dr. Lester Edgardo Sandres Rápalo ended their partnership last week less than a year into his term. RCC has been grappling with financial issues, layoffs and various cost-cutting measures implemented after an $8 million shortfall was discovered. Meanwhile, Beth Coyle has been named “Officer in Charge” of the college until a new president can be brought on board. Coyle served as RCC’s Vice President of Operations from 2018 to 2023. A spokesperson for RCC said the search for a new president will begin shortly.
