Some religious schools in the area are among hundreds that could be targeted for child sex abuse lawsuits. Wednesday was the first day New York’s new one-year window opened for older molestation cases, a provision of the Child Victims Act. Victims of sexual abuse previously were required to file any civil lawsuits before they turned 23. The new law allows for those under the age of 55 to file a lawsuit. The New York Times suggests thousands of lawsuits may be filed during the next year.
