Rockland rescue crews from the Sheriff’s Department and the Piermont Fire Department assisted Westchester safety officials who pulled the body of a swimmer from the Hudson River early yesterday afternoon. DailyVoice.com reported the two-day search began on Monday evening after the swimmer went missing after taking a dip on the Westchester side of the Hudson near the Dobbs Ferry Waterfront Park. Witnesses said the person went about 30 feet from the shoreline but did not resurface. Officials told the Journal News he may have been helping to dismantle rides at a recent Fourth of July carnival at the park and went into the water to cool off. Rescue teams searched for about three-and-a-half hours Monday night, but the search was eventually called off due to darkness. It became a recovery operation early Tuesday, and the body was found around one yesterday afternoon. The victim was not identified.
