The Republican-led House of Representatives on Thursday approved two measures that would overturn a pair of bills passed by the local Washington D.C. Council. One bill allows non-citizens to vote in local elections starting next year and the other modernizes the city’s century-old criminal code. Rockland Congressman, Republican Mike Lawler, voted for the measures, comparing D.C.’s situation to New York’s and other large U.S. cities…
Both measures passed in the House with dozens of Democrats joining the GOP-led effort. D.C. has one representative with no voting power. The resolutions would have to be approved by the Senate and signed by the President to become law.
