Rockland’s Congressman is teaming up with a Democrat to get tax relief for millions of Americans. Rockland Congressman, Republican Mike Lawler, and CongresswomanMikie Sherrill, a Democrat from New Jersey, introduced the Middle-Class Tax Relief Act, which would provide significant relief from what they call the unfair double taxation of SALT deduction cap, the state and local tax, and eliminate a marriage penalty in the tax code. Lawler said that could ease what he called an “affordability crisis” here in Rockland…
Congresswoman Sherrill said the 2017 Trump Tax Act imposed a $10,000 cap on the SALT deduction, adding that that violated 150 years of precedent in federal tax law. She said that also unfairly imposed a marriage penalty on couples filing jointly by having them face the same $10,000 cap as individuals.
