TheRockland County legislature is holding a public hearing tonight on a proposed first-ever Human Rights Law, and an expanded Fair Housing Law. Legislator Alden Wolfe of Ramapo proposed the Human Rights Law, which would bring civil penalties against those who discriminate against people based on their “gender identity and expression” to protect transgender individuals. Proposed amendments to the Fair Housing Law would address discrimination against domestic violence victims, seniors who rely on Social Security to pay their rent, members of the LGBTQ community and veterans. The public hearings get underway tonight at 7 in the Legislature’s Chambers in New City. We were unable to reach Legislator Wolfe for comment.
