Rockland is in mourning after learning long-time County Clerk Paul Piperato had died yesterday. Piperato graduated North Rockland High School in 1976, and got his bachelor’s degree in business administration from St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill. He was elected in 1997 to the Haverstraw Town Board and served for eight years. He was first elected County Clerk in 2005 and won his fourth term in 2017. He was remembered fondly by elected officials from both sides of the political aisle as community-minded and for his push to modernize procedures at the county clerk’s office. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says what he did on the job was just a small part of what made him special…
Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco says he and Paul remained close through their years of service in local government, having grown up as friends when they were just little kids…
Rockland Congresswoman Nita Lowey says she was inspired by his enthusiasm and commitment to helping others…
Piperato also took great pride in hosting naturalization ceremonies for the many people who would become Americans by choice here in Rockland every month…
And that was Marge, a caller to “The Morning Show” yesterday. The cause of death is not yet known. Piperato was 61 years old.
