Funeral services are scheduled for today for Sam Colman, a former Rockland lawmaker who passed away Monday. Colman fled Poland with his family after the Nazis invaded in 1939, making it to New York 15 years later. He was elected to the legislature in the 70s, and became chairman in ’78. He was elected to the state assembly in 1984 and served for 18 years, before becoming a Ramapo Justice until 2009. On Twitter, Congressman Mike Lawler called him a “gentleman and a wonderful representative of Rockland County.” Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht praised his “passion for justice” and dedication to protecting the rights of everyone in his court. Services today are at noon at the Community Synagogue of Monsey on West Maple Avenue. Burial will follow at Monsey Community Synagogue Cemetery on Brick Church Road. He was 90 years old.
