Wind gusts reached 91 miles-an-hour in Seaside Heights, New Jersey, 234 were killed in the storm, and total costs nationwide were estimated at more than $68 billion. Damage statewide here in New York was estimated at $32 billion. The damage was second only to 2005’s Hurricane Katrina.
