Several children were injured after the school bus they were riding in struck a telephone pole, a tree, some parked cars, eventually coming to a stop after hitting a New Hempstead home yesterday morning. Ramapo Police say the incident took place just before 9AM yesterday on Southgate Drive in New Hempstead. Police say of the 22 people on the bus, seven students were taken to Westchester Medical Center with bumps and bruises, two 5 year-olds had more serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and the bus driver was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern with an abrasion on his head. Police say the 37 year-old driver, who was not identified, showed no signs of impairment. The incident is under investigation.
