The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit agreed with a lower court’s ruling that a Stony Point resident’s First Amendment rights were not infringed by the town’s decision to not broadcast the public input portion of a town meeting in October 2021. The action was brought by George Potanovic, the head of the Stony Point Action Committee for the Environment. Potanovic had also alleged his 14th Amendment rights to equal protection were infringed. Potanovic says he was disappointed with the court’s ruling…
Potanovic claimed Stony Point Supervisor, Jim Monaghan, cut off the town’s feed to Facebook LIVE during a portion of the meeting in which candidates for office were speaking, thus depriving the Facebook audience of the meeting’s content. Stony Point supervisor Jim Monaghan said, “the lawsuit had no merit and was a complete waste of time and money.”
