As the temperatures dip, it’s important to maintain the pipes in your home to keep them from freezing and doing major damage. Suez New York’s Conservation Communications Specialist Chelsea Wulff says one thing you can do is go around your house and look for sinks that are against exterior walls, then open the cabinets to those pipes to let the air in your home warm them up. Wulff says she knows this from experience…
Wulff says if you have had frozen pipe issues in the past, you should consider letting the water from the highest point in your house run at just a small trickle. If you already have a frozen pipe, turn the water off, and open a faucet nearby to let the pipe drain as it thaws, but don’t apply hot water directly or use a blowtorch on the frozen pipe. Best bet is to call a licensed plumber. Click here for additional tips from Suez.
