Some three thousand people showed up last Saturday to take the police exam so they could be considered for jobs in the sheriff’s department or other local police agencies. Police officials and departments have been under greater scrutiny following some high-profile cases including the George Floyd murder in Minnesota and other incidents around the country. Police have also been victims in several high-profile cases, including the January 6th attack in Washington D.C., a Capitol police officer was killed when he was struck by a car at a security barricade last month, and just yesterday a Dobbs Ferry police sergeant was slashed in the face with a knife in what is being called an unprovoked attack. He was treated and released from an area hospital.
