The town of Haverstraw is leaning toward opting “in” to the state’s marijuana sales program, but it may not happen with a vote of the town board. Rockland’s other four towns have already opted out, citing the state’s still incomplete rules and regulations. The village of Airmont has scheduled a public hearing and vote for this Monday at 7pm. According to the Nelson A. Rockefeller Institute of Government public policy think tank, among the villages, West Haverstraw, Pomona, Sloatsburg and Suffern have opted out. Piermont, Chestnut Ridge, have opted in on cannabis dispensaries while opting out on cannabis lounges, and Wesley Hills has opted in on both.
