Tragedy in Haverstraw coincides with the town’s new Police Chief’s first official day on the job. A 13 year-old boy was killed Wednesday afternoon while riding his bike and was hit by a car in the village of Pomona. Chief Gould replaces Chief Peter Murphy who retired after 36 years of service. He started in the Village of Haverstraw Police Department in 1988. He rose through the ranks and helped to facilitate the merger between the Village and Town police departments back in 2006.
