I-84 in the town of Montgomery was shut down for hours and through the
morning rush yesterday after an unidentified man was shot by a New York
State Trooper. The shooting reportedly followed a police confrontation
with a man who was walking along the highway about a quarter of a mile
away from his car, which was left in the middle of the roadway. State
police say just before two AM, they responded to the disabled vehicle and
encountered a man walking on the shoulder nearby. Police say the 41
year-old was not cooperative and refused to comply with their commands
multiple times. They say the man moved to get in Trooper’s car, and then a
shot was fired. The man was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center where he died. The incident remains under investigation but no weapon has been found.
