A local lawmaker is looking to get two bills through the legislature that would help local first responders financially. Rockland state senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick says one proposal would increase the income tax credit for volunteer firefighters, though he doesn’t think it’ll come to a vote but eventually be part of the budget. Senator Reichlin-Melnick says the bill would go a long way in helping fire and ambulance companies recruit and keep their volunteers. The Assembly has already passed it. The current legislative session is due to end Thursday.
