Two Bronx men face drunk driving charges after two accidents on the Palisades Parkway in Stony Point over the weekend, one of the men struck a state police car that had stopped to help with the first accident. Around 4am Sunday, state police say 27 year-old Martin Mbamalu was stopped near exit 16 southbound. His Toyota Camry had a flat tire and passenger side damage. While troopers were speaking with Mbamalu, a Nissan Versa struck the side of the state police vehicle and kept traveling south. Troopers caught up with 35 year-old Rafael Nuñez near exit 15 and saw his car had front end damage and the airbags had deployed. Nuñez declined medical assistance, but was arrested after they found his blood alcohol concentration was .18%. He also had a suspended driver’s license. He was charged with Aggravated DWI, Criminal Mischief, Reckless Driving, and other charges. Mbamalu, the driver in the first crash, was also charged with DWI. Both men were issued appearance tickets and they’re due back in Stony Point Court at the same time on January 27th.
