The two rabbis charged in connection with the fatal Spring Valley adult home fire two years ago are expected to be in county court tomorrow. News 12 reported last week a potential plea deal is on the table that would include no prison time for Rabbi Nathaniel Sommer or his son Rabbi Aaron Sommer. While no plea deal has been announced, Rockland’s Director of Fire and Emergency Services Chris Kear says he’s not happy about the way things appear to be shaping up, as he believes the D-A had a strong case…
Rockland County Executive Ed Day said he’s not aware of the District Attorney’s ongoing discussions in the case, but hopes rumors of the plea deal are unfounded…
Volunteer firefighter Jared Lloyd was killed in the blaze, along with a resident of the home. The Sommers face felony charges for allegedly starting the fire while cleaning and preparing the Evergreen Adult Home for Passover. We have reached out to the Rockland D-A’s office and the Sommers’ attorney for comment, but did not hear back.
