The two rabbis charged in connection with the fatal Spring Valley adult home fire two years ago that killed a volunteer firefighter and a resident are expected to be in county court today, with firefighters reportedly planning to picket outside the courthouse in New City. News 12 reported last week a potential plea deal is on the table that would include no prison time for Rabbi Nathaniel Sommer or his son Rabbi Aaron Sommer. While no plea deal has been officially announced, Justin Schwartz, AKA “Junior Commander,” of the Spring Valley Fire Department, says he’s pained by the prospect of no one getting any time behind bars for the fatal fire…
Spring Valley firefighter Jared Lloyd and a resident of the home were killed in the blaze. The Sommers face felony charges for allegedly starting the fire while cleaning and preparing the Evergreen Adult Home for Passover. We reached out to the Rockland County District Attorney’s office and the Sommers’ attorney for comment, but did not hear back.
