East Ramapo voters can vote today on the upcoming school budget after it was narrowly rejected by voters last month. The new 2023-24 budget plan now features no tax increase. The spending plan that voters turned down by just 45 votes last month had a nearly two percent tax increase. Lohud.com says there are about 10,500 children in the district’s 13 schools, and some 33,000 kids who live in the district but attend private schools, mostly yeshivas that serve the Orthodox and Hasidic Jewish community. The district is required to provide busing and other services for all kids in the district, with transportation taking up about a fifth of the budget. The polls are open today from 7am until 9:30pm.
