The former Montebello podiatrist who did time for trying to have his wife killed is being sued by her for emotional distress. That’s according to The Journal News. This as 49 year-old Ira Bernstein faces charges for allegedly trying a second time to have his estranged wife killed. Bernstein and his sister have pleaded not guilty to conspiring with a Haverstraw landscaper in the plot. The landscaper has not been charged and is working with the prosecutors in the criminal case, the next court date in that case is at the end of September. Both Bernstein and his sister were reportedly released without bail though a temporary order of protection was issued. Bernstein spent nearly five years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiring with a former girlfriend to kill his wife. No court date has yet been set in the civil case.
