Route 9W has been reopened following last weekend’s brush fires that stretched from Congers to Stony Point. The fires were reportedly sparked by a passing CSX tanker train. The Rockland County Sheriff’s Department is looking into possible criminality stemming from the fires. The latest pick by New York’s governor for chief judge of the state’s highest court cleared a hurdle yesterday. Governor Kathy Hochul nominated Judge Rowan Wilson, who has been an associate judge of the seven-member Court of Appeals since 2017, and if confirmed, he would be the state’s first Black chief judge. The state Senate Judiciary Committee approved Wilson yesterday afternoon, and the full Senate is expected to vote on his appointment today.
